27 Feb 2007 “Will you be my Lorelai Gilmore?” Recap
 |  Category: Recaps  | 2 Comments

Loved it Loved it Loved it. Rory was breaking a land speed record for fast talking, lots of good mother & daughter moments between Lorelai & Rory & Lane & Mrs. Kim.  We got to see Kirk being Kirk.  Only a brief cameo by April.  Logan is sucking again, surprise surprise, hopefully this will pave the way for hot assistant professor man. Christopher seems to be a distant memory.  The episode ended with the town singing to Lane’s babies (they are both boys).  I thought that it would be the classic Lorelai standing all alone sad shot, but this was a much better way to end it. I do think that the whole New York Times thing might be heralding an end for the Gilmore Girls.  I’m actually sad about that now.  Let this be a life lesson, you cut the stupid boys out of the picture, & everything is better. Sorry this is short, but it was actually a good episode so not much to critique. How did you feel about this episode?

From the Season that brought us "Let’s make the town smell like eggs episode again but not as funny" or "Let’s do another Richard in the hospital episode but not at all heartfelt" comes the long awaited "Let’s make another animal funeral episode except everyone will be really haughty & uncharacteristic & will completely ruin the "Cinnamon’s Wake" episode forever".  It just seems like they are taking things that were once inventive & beating them beyond all recognition. Well it doesn’t seem that way, it IS that way.

Does anyone else think that Logan has been abducted & a pod person put in his place?  Just a theory I wanted to throw out there.  Rory’s new professor confuses me.  We have Logan, of course something bad is going to happen there.  Why bring in someone new when we already have Martie who was never right for her in the first place, but perfect for me? First impression, I liked the new guy, although that could just be because he reminded me a lot of Max. I don’t remember his name, but I like him.  I hope we see more of him.

Sookie was flawless in her statement of something to the effect "If there was no Luke, would there be a Christopher right now?".  I’m storing that way to advise friends with, but first I have to set them up with people named Luke & Christopher. I wasn’t hearting this episode until the end, it’s nice to finally get rid of Christopher & admit that she rushed into it, & I think they did a superb job of that.  I love Lauren Graham, I do, but she is one of the worst criers I’ve ever seen. Even worse than April, but I still love her.

I’m going to make this prediction right now. Plus, I’m going to announce it in a completely unnecessary sentence. As soon as Lorelai & Luke get back together & they are so close to finally just making things happen, we will see that commercial that has been remade a thousand times for next weeks episode with various clips about how Christopher is Rory’s father & the only man that can come between them.  I think Christopher is gone, but not for long.  Unfortunately. What were your thoughts on this episode?

Disclaimer:  To my knowledge the following scenario is completely fictional & is not to be construed as standard operating procedure for the CW.  I love it when my posts have disclaimers.

Writer 1:  "Ok, so we have Richard in the hospital with a heart attack, we need ideas here"

Writer 2:  "Alright, I’m seeing it, I’m seeing it.  How about we use this as an instance to realize how fragile life & love is & how we all need to have better relationships"

Writer 1:  "What do you think this is?  Season 3?  Wake up man.  This season is all about product placement.  Why do you think we do that recap of what everyone was wearing instead of mention books & gilmore-ism’s.  What we really need to focus in on is where we can fit in a great Diane Von Furstenburg jacket in here, they are in the hospital, put your thinking caps on people. So Grandpa Gilmore, I’m not seeing a lot of him this episode.  Let’s focus on Logan & some future business mistake he’s going to make.  We can sell a lot of stuff off of Logan, like hair gel & pomade.  Are the cool kids still saying pomade?  Someone check on that for me. Also, none of that touchy feely stuff like last time he was in the hospital.  Instead lets have all of the Gilmores being self-absorbed & heartless.

Writer 2:  "Brilliant, but let’s also throw in a little Christopher/Luke conflict because once Luke Danes is in your life he is in your life, & once a Christopher always a Christopher.

One step forward:

No Aeira girls this week.  I didn’t notice them last week either.  I guess it’s a distinct possibility that I’ve just emotionally oppressed the memory of them. We did however have a great preview of Lauren Graham’s new movie "Because I said so".  At least someone knows how to make her look like a bride.

Two steps back:

The kitchen tiles look a lot more yellow.  It just reminded me of highlighting Paris’ hair.  Plus the fact that Emily’s hair is now perfect.  I always liked her slightly frizzy hair, it was one imperfection in her character.

Muffin tops.  Do they think I’ve never seen Seinfeld?  They should at least pay homage to it, instead of just trying to pass it off as a completely new idea.  Same thing with Jackson’s failed attempt to get private male surgery, "Mad About You" already did that. Maybe next week they will recycle an old "I love Lucy" plot & they will all get a job working on a chocolate assembly line

One step forward:

Paris’ charts.  Finally, someone is trying to get Rory into gear.  It’s about time.  I love the way she did it too, as well as finally just tackling the juvenile Rory/Lucy situation.

Two steps back:

Rory still worrying about Lucy when she should be worried about her future.  What happened to the once driven girl who was trying to get into an Ivy League school?  That Rory would be much more focused & freaking out to compete with Paris.

Jackson & Lucy both had books, but they were never mentioned & there wasn’t even a decent shot to tell what they were reading.  I now have to wander through Barnes & Noble & decide which book with a silver seal on it was in the scene.

One step forward:

I actually loved Lorelai’s letter.  It was very heart felt, & we’ve heard the line "Once Luke Danes is in your life, he’s in your life forever", several times before in different words.  I may have gotten tears in my eyes, or I was just that happy to not see the Aeria girls.

Steps back:

Stop playing with my emotions.  I started the episode loving Chris, Lorelai, & Rory as a family.  I think they have a much better connection than trying to fit Luke into that equation.  No sooner do I decide this, then Chris leaves.

Martie & Lucy broke up.  Really?  Shocking.  Do you think now he will try to become between Rory & Logan?  Who would’ve thought?  At least he is finally available to date me.

It seems that their wpm has decreased.  I don’t clock how fast they talk, but it really seemed to drag.  Also, nothing to google this episode.

Richard Gilmores supposed heart attack.  Remember the episode before when he had a heart attack around Christmas time?  This was one of the best episodes of "Gilmore Girls" in my opinion.  Now it is just being used in an attempt to get Luke & Lorelai back together.

All in all, I feel like yelling at Sookie, Richard, Martie & the whole gang "Don’t give in to the plot ploy.  Don’t let yourselves be used like this. Fight it, I know you can".  What did you think of the episode?
