I usually try to do something witty with the recaps, but so much happened in this episode & I’m so excited to write about it, I just can’t think of anything witty. First off Grandma & Grandpa Gilmore sang a song they wrote to Rory during a party they threw for her. I guess the writers are trying to make the transition easier for us, as I’ve already written about how stars singing karaoke is the kiss of death, but even that couldn’t ruin the episode. Grandpa Gilmore is in fine form again, I guess they didn’t have time to explain why he had been so cranky lately. Logan proposed to Rory in front of everyone, it reminded me of “Friends” where Monica says Rachel always tries to steal her thunder. Rory had a classic Rory freak out, what should I do moment & said that she would have to think about it. This was so reminiscent of when Dean first told her that he loved her & then they broke up. Rory eventually decided that she wanted to have the whole world open to her & Logan said we either get married or break up, so they broke up.
In other news that also isn’t witty, I think I’m glad that Luke & Lorelai didn’t get married last season. It would’ve been interesting to see what happened, but then the fans would’ve blamed it for the end of the show, which often happens when the love interests of a story finally get together. I don’t know if we will see a full Luke/Lorelai reconciliation next week, but I really hope it doesn’t end like Seinfeld.
I especially liked how true to college graduation they were. I was hoping that they would be realistic & they were, Rory didn’t give a speech. In fact, few people even clapped or noticed. I thought that Christiane Amanpour was going to be at Rory’s graduation, but I guess that comes next week. My favorite part is that Stars Hallow was so upset that they all couldn’t see Rory’s graduation that they are going to re-enact it next week! What did you think of tonight’s episode? How many times did you get teary eyed? (four for me).
Tonight’s episode is why I started watching "Gilmore Girls". It’s like life, on an interesting day.
When Rory doesn’t get her internships & worries that everyone will leave her that is what graduating from college feels like.
When Lorelai obsesses about why Luke is wearing the hat she gave him again, that’s what relationships are like.
When Logan asks Lorelai for Rory’s hand in marriage & he has to keep repeating Lorelai over & over as the screen fades out, that is exactly what Grandpa Gilmore’s stroke is like.
When Lorelai sings "I will always love you" karaoke to Luke, well that is what jumping the shark is like. Usually a karaoke scene is the kiss of death, but I still loved it.
The CW may have actually added something cool to their website, Kirk giving tours of Stars Hallow, but it’s too slow on my computer to tell so please someone check it out & tell me about it.
This is usually the space where I write about this weeks episode. However, there isn’t a lot to write, it’s more a feeling, so it doesn’t come across in my writing that I just spent 15 minutes sitting here not typing. Paris got into a bazillion schools & decided to be a doctor. Rory didn’t get her New York Times fellowship so hopefully she won’t go do anything rash like steal a boat. The girls were wearing those shirts that look like pirates, except they didn’t know they looked like pirates. Anne of Green Gables would say they were puffed sleeves. I would say, how do you walk through doorways like that?
Lorelai went back into Luke’s Diner after 9-10 months. After they got over the general awkwardness & went car shopping because the Jeep died, they were back. I’m not talking relationship back, I’m talking season 1-3 sarcastic banter. It was better than when they were dating & always talking about their feelings (blech). Lorelai was free to be herself & insist that her car had a feeling, Luke was free to be himself & do sweet things like find a new engine that can be put into Lorelai’s old car. That never happened when they were dating, even at the best of times. I’m the biggest L&L fan out there, most of that is based off the fact that I like how they interact, but all those times I like are when they are just friends. I know it’s been fated from the beginning, & I’ve always pulled for them, but honestly, I would be just as happy if the show ended with them just sitting in the diner arguing. Maybe they are better off just as friends? What do you think?
