Easter Parade

Filed under: Movies • Comments: 2

Easter Parade (Two-Disc Special Edition)I watched “Easter Parade” with Judy Garland, Fred Astaire, & a lot of other people who are probably dead now. See? It’s that kind of sarcasm & bluntness that makes me usually not a musical person, the same way I don’t really dig most poetry. Say what you mean, & be done with it. I was expecting not to like Easter Parade (This movie was mentioned in “Dear Richard & Emily” when Lorelai buys Emily a DVD player & then walks up the stairs singing this). However, there were a few very Lorelai moments in this film, it was quite likeable & funny.  Plus it’s in Technicolor.  Nifty. I find myself longing for the days when a guy can be a balding, skinny, a jerk & still get the girl as long as he can dance. So to recap, “Easter Parade” I didn’t hate it as much as I thought I would. It’s a very light, happy film, it’s the kind of movie you watch when your mom visits. As musicals go, it ain’t bad.

Not enough cold medicine in the world: From Justin to Kelly

Filed under: Movies • Comments: 1

From Justin To Kelly (Special Edition)I watched the classic movie “From Justin to Kelly with Love”. You know it’s a good movie when I started watching half way through & it still seemed interminable. Shocking I know, you would think a movie with two American Idol stars who aren’t actors, peppered with a supporting cast with fake Texan accents in a quasi-musical/beach style movie & no plot would be a winner. I was actually cheering for the commercials to come on. Not even the fact that I was half asleep & delirious from a flu could save this movie.  Even I knew it was crap. There is a reason the “Gilmore Girls” referenced this movie several times, it’s just that bad. This definitely has a place in the “Gilmore Girls” bad movie hall of fame.

Is there anything more Gilmore than Cop Rock?

Filed under: Movies • Comments: 2

Once in a lifetime we are given a gift that forever changes the world in which we live. In 1990, that gift was “Cop Rock”. The “Gilmore Girls” are big fans, I was going to reference the exact episodes where “Cop Rock” was mentioned, but I’m giving you “Cop Rock” isn’t that enough? Part musical, part crime drama, what’s not to love? We had long been awaiting that fusion, & we were given 11 episodes of pure bliss.  I’ve never been in trouble with the law, or even to court, but I’m pretty sure that the jury/prisoners, break out into song & dance. Here is a classic clip “Cop Rock” clip about a baby merchant. Why was this show canceled? Why?

I love the Gilmores Enough to Watch Solarias

Filed under: Movies • Comments: 5

Solaris To become a “Gilmore Girl” sacrifices must be made. One of those sacrifices is called “Solarias”. It is a George Clooney movie that the Gilmores watch on one of their bad movie nights. If you have enough food, & international cuisine from the pancake house, any movie is fun to watch. Without those things, this movie took me about 3 days to watch, with no increment of “Solarias” viewing longer than 8.5 minutes. This movie did finally answer the burning question “If your dead wife came back in alien form would you kill her for the good of the planet?”. It had me thinking, ha people were so weird in the 70’s. Then I realized that this movie was just made a few years ago, in which case it is just plain sad. Solarias is really for mocking purposes only. Check out other movie reviews here.
