Love, Daisies and Troubadours is really a life changing episode for the Gilmore Girls and also the season finale of the first season. We start off with Rachael leaving town and Luke. She had done this previously but always to follow her own dreams. This time she did it because Luke seems to be in love with Lorelai.
However, Lorelai and Max get into a fight over Luke in basically the same scenario and mid-fight Max proposes. She says that a proposal can’t be that way. It needs to be magical with a thousand yellow daisies. He apologizes and agrees. When she shows up at the inn to work the next day she hears Kirk and Michael arguing about a floral delivery: a thousand yellow daises which is Max’s proposal.
Rory ends up getting back together with Dean too. The season ends with the Lorelai and Rory running up to each other in the street of Stars Hollow both excited about their amazing news.
During the Road Trip to Harvard we see a lot of the differences between Lorelai and Rory. This episode features Lorelai literally running away and leaving all of her wedding planning as well as her actual wedding. She doesn’t want to deal with the fact that she’s canceled things with Max at the last minute so they take off on an aimless road trip.
So, at first they get lost then Lorelai knows exactly where they are going and it’s a surprise. They try out a bed and breakfast. They hate the overly friendly people so much that they refuse to eat or leave the room. Then Lorelai takes off for a surprise trip to Harvard. She acts as the tour guide although it’s not quite as official as Rory or Emily would like. Lorelai starts wondering what her life would have been like had she gone to college in a poignant moment where she finds the plaque from what would’ve been her graduating class.
Throughout the show Gilmore Girl Rory really ends up always trying to please her grandmother Emily. However, Lorelai always cautions against this just because she knows how her mother is never happy or satisfied.
So Rory decides to be a debutant. She even convinces Dean to be her escort even though he hates wearing a tux or doing anything formal. However, then the only thing she’s worried about is asking her Dad Christopher to show up and present her. It’s one of the few times that we see how Christopher not really being around is just going to mean that Lorelai can’t always make up for things even though she can’t always do this. When he returns we see that there may still be chemistry between him and Lorelai but as usual there are huge obstacles that really lead to it not happening. We also see Richard really melt down because his company is trying to get rid of him and he’s not ready to walk away yet.
