I’m obviously an avid fan of the show because I’ve been trying to become Lorelai Gilmore for over a decade. However, I’m probably the only fan who isn’t that excited about the show coming back to Netflix for four episodes. Here is why:
I was happy with the way the series ended. I wasn’t gunning for a Luke and Lorelai wedding because the show was never about that for me. It was about mother and daughter relationships. It ended the way it began and I’m good with that.
Since Edward Herrmann passed I just can’t envision a show without Grandpa Gilmore. Melissa Mccarthy is probably too big of a star to revive her role as Sookie.
There is a lot of potential to screw this up and ruin the show forever. I used to love a show called Dead Like Me which didn’t get a proper farewell. So I was thrilled when there was a movie. Dead Like Me: Life After Death totally ruined the series for me. There were very few original cast members and it had been too long since the show aired to pickup any of the original storylines. For instance, April is in the cast and I hope she doesn’t take up too much of the plot. My ideal revival would be Rory and Lorelai sitting in a coffee shop saying crazy things while Luke brings them food.
If they are doing this, I’m glad it’s Netflix. They did a great job with Arrested Development and I’m excited to see Fuller House. I only hope we get to hear the four words that Amy Sherman Palladino promised so long ago was how she’d end the series. I’ll watch it but until that point I’m going to worry that they’re going to mess up my favorite show.
