What I Think About the Netflix Gilmore Girls Thing

I’m obviously an avid fan of the show because I’ve been trying to become Lorelai Gilmore for over a decade. However, I’m probably the only fan who isn’t that excited about the show coming back to Netflix for four episodes. Here is why:

I was happy with the way the series ended. I wasn’t gunning for a Luke and Lorelai wedding because the show was never about that for me. It was about mother and daughter relationships. It ended the way it began and I’m good with that.

Since Edward Herrmann passed I just can’t envision a show without Grandpa Gilmore. Melissa Mccarthy is probably too big of a star to revive her role as Sookie.

There is a lot of potential to screw this up and ruin the show forever. I used to love a show called Dead Like Me which didn’t get a proper farewell. So I was thrilled when there was a movie. Dead Like Me: Life After Death totally ruined the series for me. There were very few original cast members and it had been too long since the show aired to pickup any of the original storylines. For instance, April is in the cast and I hope she doesn’t take up too much of the plot. My ideal revival would be Rory and Lorelai sitting in a coffee shop saying crazy things while Luke brings them food.

If they are doing this, I’m glad it’s Netflix. They did a great job with Arrested Development and I’m excited to see Fuller House. I only hope we get to hear the four words that Amy Sherman Palladino promised so long ago was how she’d end the series. I’ll watch it but until that point I’m going to worry that they’re going to mess up my favorite show.

I have the same feelings. I just don’t feel that great about it. I love my Gilmores but I like how they were 8 years ago, 8 years is such a long time to bring something back. And with Edward Herrman being gone, I just can’t bear the thought of the show not having him. He was one of my favorite characters and I just don’t like it. The only reason I am excited is because Amy is doing it, that makes me happy since it is her baby. However, I’m nervous. I also heard Jared (aka Dean) is going to be in it. Is that just rumor or true? Also, HOW can you do a show without Sookie? I see so many failings on this one.

I was worried too… and it turns out Amy’s long-awaited 4 words were what ruined it all for me =(
