I just looked up the plural of nemesis and I guess it’s nemeses or nemesi. I was just watching the episode “That’ll Do Pig” about Emily and her fight with Richard’s mom Lorelai. It hit me that everyone has a nemesis. Through much of the show, this was Emily’s role. Then comes along a woman who is basically Emily’s version of Emily. I guess everyone has someone who makes them feel small and belittled. I’ve always just thought of this episode as funny and a way to show Emily’s slightly hypocritical nature but it does say something about the human condition, I’m not exactly sure what, but it does say something.

I have never liked Emily much but when old Lorelai is about I happen to feel sorry for her.
Seeing Emily and Lorelai the First banter is one of my favorite things. Emily is an awesome character..one moment I feel sorry for her, the next I can’t stand her.
God, I love the episode when Lorelai I is introduced
It made me see Emily as a real, no longer one dimensional character. I haven’t always liked Emily’s actions (and you’re right, she’s slightly hypocritical) , but I think she’s one of the best characters of the show, mainly because the woman who played her is such an amazing actress.
