30 Jan 2009 The Gilmores made me buy it
 |  Category: Gilmore Girls  | 6 Comments

I don’t necessarily like shoes.  I like that they keep my feet from touching the ground & they are pretty but I probably own 30 pairs instead of 300 & yes I realize that 30 pairs is still a lot.  I’m not a fanatic.  However, everyone thinks I am a shoe fiend because I own this purse:

I saw it in the store & it just reminded me of the Gilmores. Specifically, the episode where Lorelai tried to get Emily to buy a mini guitar case purse for Rory’s birthday. I’ve always wanted a guitar shaped purse but that one looked hard to carry. What is the most random thing you have ever bought because it reminded you of the Gilmores?

23 Jan 2009 Maybe this will be the year

I was trying to think of some crazy gilmoresque New Years resolutions.  For awhile I was just going to resolve to get gilmoresque into the dictionary this year or at least look it up this year to make sure that it’s not already in there.  I’ve kind of stalled on Rory’s Book list.  For awhile, I was reading a book a week, which meant that I should have finished last fall.  That didn’t happen because I saved most of the hard books for last.  I blame David Cooperfield.

I’m trying to get back into it, I just need one of the books to be really good to inspire me.   That, or I need to buy a bigger handbag & so I can carry my books around with me like Rory & Vanity Fair will be so heavy that I will want to finish it really quickly. I have thirty one books left, I probably own most of them, I just need to not suck so much.  Once I broke my rule of not deviating from the book list I was lost.  I feel a little bit like Rory when she saw the library at Harvard & realized how many books she’d never be able to read.

15 Jan 2009 That’s Donna Reed?
 |  Category: Gilmore Girls  | 3 Comments

I’ve never given much thought to Donna Reed.  I just assumed that she was on the Donna Reed Show & that’s why she was famous.  I’ve watched about fifteen minutes of the Donna Reed show & it is nowhere near as entertaining as Rory & Lorelai made it in when they were putting words in the characters mouth.  As a side note, that’s another way that I’m a Gilmore.  Whenever I’m bored with a show I mute it & then make up how the dialogue should be.

If it wasn’t for Gilmore Girls I never would’ve thought about Donna Reed.  The other day I was watching “It’s a Wonderful Life” & I wondered who played Mary.  Apparently, it’s Donna Reed.  She was also in “The Picture of Dorian Gray”.  That’s not a complete list of her work, those are just the ones I recognized.  It would make sense that she would have to be a big film star before they gave her a show. According to Rory, Donna was one of the first women TV executives. Over at wikipedia they also said…

After the The Donna Reed Show ended its run in 1966, Reed took time off from acting and helped form the interest group, Another Mother For Peace in 1967. Reed also became an opponent of the Vietnam War and the use of nuclear weapons.

10 Jan 2009 The Gilmore Guide to Paint Colors
 |  Category: Gilmore Girls  | One Comment

Lorelai was picking out paint colors during one of the most pivotal episodes (in my mind anyways) of the show.  When it came time to paint a room in my house, I got a feel for just how complicated it is.  I could pick out a color for everything except for the room that needed to be painted.  For awhile I was drawn to purple & wondered why I had never considered it before.  Then I remembered that it’s because I hate purple.

I was going to go with Lorelai’s suggestion & choose a color that wouldn’t clash with my dog.  However, my dog is brown & pretty much matches everything.  I tried to get the dog to choose the paint color but he decided to bark at the wind instead. At least I didn’t have to worry about a paint crew leaving if they didn’t have work because I don’t have a paint crew.  So after pouring over every paint color in existence I ended up choosing the gold/taupe color that I had picked out days earlier.  See you in hell color wheel.
