My Lane Kim Moment

I don’t know what made me decide that I had a natural affinity for the drums. Especially since I’ve never actually played them. I guess I thought I would be good at it because it combines my affinity for hitting stuff with my affinity for looking cool. A few years ago a friend gave me a set of drum sticks & then we proceeded to hit pots & pans, which Lane also did. I don’t know why I thought if I sucked at hitting pots & pans, I would rock at playing the drums.

I was at my friends new house & she led me into a room with a set of garage sale drums. It was the first time I ever sat behind a drum set. So naturally the first thing I did was take pictures of me looking cool. Then, finally it was time to play. I, like Lane Kim, knew this was my calling. Then I actually tried to play & realized it wasn’t. At least I looked cool.

The First Pancake

I was initially disturbed by the first pancake scene in the episode “Will you be my Lorelai Gilmore?” Rory shared this advice about how the first pancake is always worthless because it gets burnt.

I always hated that Rory learned how to cook, it was just so against her character. The other morning I was making pancakes because if Rory can learn how to cook, so can I. The first pancake didn’t turn out well. It looked like scrambled eggs but with a pancake. I thought, cooking sucks, I want to eat a donut. Then I decided to try one more pancake & the second one came out perfect. I guess the first pancake phenomenon is alive & well.

Roomba Watching

I recently got a roomba. Yes, it takes about five times longer to vacuum than a normal vacuum. Yes, it always seems to leave lint on the floor. Yes, it has to be cleaned out & takes about as long to do that as it would to use a regular vacuum. I can’t help loving it. It’s a robot & it vacuums. I originally thought that the roomba would save me all sorts of time. Instead, I just end up watching it & think “It’s a robot. Neato.” I always laugh when it bumps into stuff. Yes my thoughts are very profound.

At least the Gilmore Girls shared my hobby. Remember the episode where Lorelai was at home & Rory was at college & they both were on the phone just watching their pink roombas? I was looking through videos to put with this post & apparently everyone who owns a roomba films it & puts it on youtube.

It is not my fault that watching robots do housework is awesome. It is times like these where I wish that my life had a scoreboard next to it so I could see how much time was devoted to various activities like roomba watching. I probably don’t want to know.
