Why do they call them Milk Duds?

Filed under: Gilmore Girls • Comments: 1

Emily asked this question in the episode where Richard is in the hospital in Season 7. Yes, typing that was a lot easier than looking at the episode title. Of course, I was curious, because it’s candy. Why do they call them Milk Duds?

So I went to wikipedia & apparently the manufacturer said the milk part is because there’s a lot of milk in it. However, Milk Duds were originally supposed to be perfectly round. This was impossible, hence the dud in milk duds.

Gilmore Christmas Music

Filed under: Gilmore Music • Comments: None

I think that in the scene when Lorelai is trimming the tree by herself before she finds out that Richard has had a heart attack (Yes, that was a lot easier than just looking up the episode title) that the background music is Christmas Wrapping by the Waitresses. I win the award for the longest run on sentence. I’m not sure this is the music, but if it isn’t, it certainly should be.

Rory’s Book Club: Rescuing patty Hearst

Filed under: Book Reviews • Comments: 2

3 pop tarts My name is Sara & I don’t always read book jackets. This was the case of “Rescuing Patty Hearst: Memories from a Decade Gone Mad” One of the subtitles is also Growing Up Sane in a Decade Gone Mad.

I picked up the book, read the first page, closed the book & thought “Crap, that’s really good”. The entire book was on the same level. Then I finished reading it, looked at the book jacket again & saw that it was written by Virginia Holman. I thought “The girl’s name in the story is Virginia, could it be?” I finally put together that it was a memoir. In fact it’s one of the best memoirs I’ve ever read. It reads like a novel, serves me right for not reading the book jacket.

One of the few things Paris has ever liked

Filed under: Movies • Comments: 4

March of the Penguins has been on Animal Planet lately. I remember where Paris said that the penguin movie rocks. It’s basically the only thing she’s ever complimented.

At first I thought more than two hours watching penguins was akin to being back in high school & watching videos in science class. However, March of the Penguins is enthralling. It shouldn’t be so fascinating to watch penguins, but it just is. A word of warning: I now hate pelicans & weird seal looking things & anything else that is an emperor to the emperor penguin.
