Gilmore on a budget: Swapadvd is now open!!!

Filed under: Gilmore Girls • Comments: 1

Becoming a Gilmore Girl has gotten very expensive. I have no idea what make up they use to look all glowy, but I’m sure it’s expensive. There’s the Burken bag which is worth more than my car. Then it’s the hundreds of CD’s that I need to buy when I want to be Lane. There’s the reading of Rory’s book list, most of which my library doesn’t have. Then, I have to track down movies & find out if Cop Rock is out on DVD yet.

Trust me, all of this is fun. It makes me happy. In fact it makes me so happy that I actually used the word happy instead of being sarcastic. To cut costs I joined several swapping sites. These sites are all run by the same people. I like the fact that they have a huge selection, that you can trade credits between the sites & that you can even buy credits if necessary.

Basically for every item that you send to someone else you get a credit which you can then use to get anything on the site. I also love the fact that you can make a list & get in line for items that you want that other members haven’t posted yet. You even get free credits just for posting a few dvd’s/books/cd’s depending on the site, so you can get the first few dvd’s/books/cd’s for free. These sites totally beat the pro/con lists I made of all the other swapping sites. Of course I made a pro/con list, I’m practically Rory.

There are over 1.5 million books listed on this site, it’s been a huge help with Rory’s book list.

I’ve gotten several Tom Waits cd’s from this site & will not rest until I have the entire collection.

This site just came out of beta today. I’ve been a beta tester for a few weeks now & it’s wonderful. I only wished that I’d known about it before I bought Season 7 of Gilmore Girls on DVD.

Rory’s Book Club: Death of a salesman

Filed under: Book Reviews • Comments: None

I like to read plays. I like to go to plays. At least I think I like to. During the first act I’m in such awe & wondering why I don’t do this more often. Then after awhile, I start wondering why they don’t sell popcorn. So, I decided to read “Death of a Salesman” by Arthur Miller because then I could have popcorn at hand.

I told someone the summary & they said, “wow that’s depressing”. I was thinking, it’s called “Death of a Salesman” what were you expecting? I’ve heard the title of this play a lot, but had no idea what it entailed. It was a poignant story about family, dreams & reality. It makes me type words like poignant. Yes, the book/play is a downer, but it’s poignant.

Jane Eyre Rocks

Filed under: Book Reviews • Comments: 1

As Lou Grant said to Mary Tyler Moore “You’ve got spunk”. Jane Eyre definitely has spunk. I related more to her than I have to any other classic heroine. She sticks to her principles & speaks up when she doesn’t like something, but she’s still feminine.

Jane makes the perfect modern day character, but it’s astounding that Charlotte Bronte wrote this in 1848. I can only imagine what the more conservative people of the day thought of Jane Eyre, but I’m a huge fan. Once again, thanks to Rory’s Book Club for the fantastic introduction. Of course I knew there was a book called Jane Eyre, but I never read it because it was sitting on the bookshelf, leather bound, next to all of the other “boring” books.

I’ve grown unaccustomed to her face

Filed under: Gilmore Girls • Comments: 1

I am the ultimate multi tasker. I usually talk on the phone while watching the TV on mute & browsing the web. So I was confused when after a few weeks without watching Gilmore Girls, I had lost all of my multi tasking powers. Now the only thing that I can do when an episode is watch TV. Yes Gilmore Girls actually deserves that respect & concentration but I’m just not used to all of the fast talking anymore. Sorry that the post title doesn’t make any sense, blame it on the Gilmores.
