Bon Voyage Recap

Filed under: Recaps • Comments: 8

Here was my day up until the series finale of "Gilmore Girls" that aired tonight:

5 hours until the show:  Realized that I would never be able to get dressed again.  May 15 is the day that Sarakastic’s style forever froze.  When I’m wearing a scarf in the summer, ten years from now, you’ll know why.

4 hours & 39 Minutes to show:  Tried to buy something to properly acknowledge the end of an era.  Could not decide between the "a deer hit my car" & the "smart girls are mean" bumper stickers.

3 hours & 47 minutes:  Refuse to drive anywhere in case I should get in a car accident & miss the last episode.

2 hours until show:  Freak out & wonder, what if Grandpa & Grandma Gilmore aren’t in this episode?  What were their last words to Rory just in case, quick get the videotape.

Overall, I loved the last episode. I can’t imagine that Amy Sherman Palladino could’ve done any better. Except Amy wouldn’t have forgotten to write in Mrs. Kim.  Maybe all the budget was used on getting Christiane Amanpour to guest star.  Plus, Amy probably would’ve at least had a phone call from Jess. Everything I wanted to happen since the beginning happened.  Luke & Lorelei are together-ish, Rory isn’t dating Logan, Rory has her whole life/career ahead of her & it’s about mothers & daughters.  I even said what I wanted the final scene to be & I got that too.

Anyways, it was perfect, Lorelai & Rory were planning on going a cross country vacation to ride all the cool rollercoasters.  Then Rory got a job reporting for an online magazine, covering the Obama Barack campaign.  This also threw off plans for the town party, which Lorelai canceled.  Then Luke decided to throw a surprise party & he had to stay up all night & sew all of the town’s camping tents together to make a big tent for the party because it was going to rain.  Emily & Richard kept trying to get Lorelei to expand the Inn to include a spa, or tennis courts with a bubble built over them, so they could loan Lorelei the money so she’d still come to Friday Night dinner.  Luke & Lorelei kissed.  The next morning, he opened up the Diner so Lorelei & Rory could have one last cup of coffee, & that’s where the camera zoomed out.  I like that they left things really open, like there’s still a story to tell.  This way I can imagine that Luke & Lorelei get married under the chuppah & Rory meets up with that cute assistant professor again.  What did you think of the series finale?  Were you disappointed?  What would you have changed?  Sorry, this isn’t an essay assignment, I just want to know everyone’s thoughts.

Rory’s Book Club: Fahrenheit 451

Filed under: Book Reviews • Comments: None

I don’t usually like songs that are about singing. Anything along the lines of "I write the songs" by Barry Manilow makes me cringe. To me, a song about the power of songs, isn’t powerful. So I had my doubts when I picked up Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. Would I really like a book about books? I thought it was captivating though. The last time I read Ray Bradbury was in the 8th grade, & for whatever reason it didn’t make an impression. Now I must go back & reread more of his works.

Here are some interesting facts about the book from the appendix about Ray Bradbury & Fahrenheit 451:

  • Ray Bradbury wrote for the TV show "The Twilight Zone", as well as designed a ride for Disney World.
  • The movie "Something Wicked This Way Comes", still scared me in college.
  • Mr. Bradbury was unable to write this book at home because he would be distracted by his kids.  Instead he sat in the basement of a university library & paid a dime for every 30 minutes of typewriter use.  I think this is an interesting way to write, because there is a lot of pressure to beat the clock, more so than usual. His first draft was finished in nine days for a total of $9.80.

What were your thought on this book or Ray Bradbury in general?

Cider Icecream

Filed under: Gilmore Girls • Comments: 2

I try to spread the good word of Gilmore wherever I go.  Actually, I just forget that not everyone is an uber fan of the show.  So, the quotes just slip out sometimes, & usually I am met with a lot of smiling while people slowly back away from me.  So, I’ve decided to start seeing how some of my favorite quotes go over in everyday conversation. Some of these will be direct quotes, some I have adapted for my own usage.

The Quote: "Okay, clearly this is shaping up to be one of those moments that St. Peter’s gonna show on the big video screen when I die, and I for one do not wanna see the three of us staggering around with cider ice cream slathered all over our faces while my soul hangs in the balance" From the Episode Run away little boy"

My Usage: "Ok, this is gonna be one of those times that St. Peter will show on the big video screen when I die & I’d rather not see us _________ while my soul hangs in the balance"

The result:  A lot of odd looks, a lot of, why is she reminding us that we are going to purgatory? I have tried this line time & again because I think it is hilarious, I think it’s something everyone should be able to relate too, but it’s never been  met with positive results.  I’ll just have to keep at it.

Unto the breach recap

Filed under: Recaps • Comments: 4

I usually try to do something witty with the recaps, but so much happened in this episode & I’m so excited to write about it, I just can’t think of anything witty.  First off Grandma & Grandpa Gilmore sang a song they wrote to Rory during a party they threw for her.  I guess the writers are trying to make the transition easier for us, as I’ve already written about how stars singing karaoke is the kiss of death, but even that couldn’t ruin the episode.  Grandpa Gilmore is in fine form again, I guess they didn’t have time to explain why he had been so cranky lately. Logan proposed to Rory in front of everyone, it reminded me of "Friends" where Monica says Rachel always tries to steal her thunder.  Rory had a classic Rory freak out, what should I do moment & said that she would have to think about it.  This was so reminiscent of when Dean first told her that he loved her & then they broke up. Rory eventually decided that she wanted to have the whole world open to her & Logan said we either get married or break up, so they broke up.

In other news that also isn’t witty, I think I’m glad that Luke & Lorelai didn’t get married last season.  It would’ve been interesting to see what happened, but then the fans would’ve blamed it for the end of the show, which often happens when the love interests of a story finally get together.  I don’t know if we will see a full Luke/Lorelai reconciliation next week, but I really hope it doesn’t end like Seinfeld with "I love U..nited Airlines"

I especially liked how true to college graduation they were.  I was hoping that they would be realistic & they were, Rory didn’t give a speech.  In fact, few people even clapped or noticed. I thought that Christiane Amanpour was going to be at Rory’s graduation, but I guess that comes next week. My favorite part is that Stars Hallow was so upset that they all couldn’t see Rory’s graduation that they are going to re-enact it next week! What did you think of tonight’s episode?  How many times did you get teary eyed? (four for me).
