Pursuit of Happyness
When the Gilmores all sat down to watch the "Pursuit of Happyness" together I was a little confused. It just didn’t seem like a Gilmore movie to me, not a whole lot to make fun of. I guess I always think of the girls as watching obscure movies from twenty years ago, or really just plain stupid movies. It seemed more like product placement. However, Will Smith is a handsome, handsome man. What I really liked about this movie was that there wasn’t a real love interest, it was about a father & son, kind of like how Gilmore Girls really isn’t about Luke & Logan, (Well at least it shouldn’t be). There wasn’t really a villain in this movie, it was just like life, sometimes life is just hard. So although I don’t think it belongs with the other Gilmore movies, it still gets 4 toaster pastries.
I finally saw the last episode last night. There was sobbing. Thank you for preparing me - my husband was a wreck (although he’d deny it) saying, “Luke better get it together and get with Loralei - he’s only got 20 minutes!

this was a GREAT movie… although i agree that it did not seem entirely “gilmore-esque”

Yeah, it wasn’t something I’d expect Rory and Lorelai to watch. But it had parallels with Gilmore Girls.
This movie is also–believe it or not–a movie about entrepreneurship. Chris Gardner is following his passion and trying something new, kind of like Lorelai when she was 16. But Chris had to reach rock bottom before he succeeded. Stories like this are more common than you might think. I hear all the time of very successful people who survived on ramen noodles for months on end when they were first starting out.
Someday I hope to write about the parts of this movie that are unrealistic, too. But it’s still an inspiring story. My wife and I watched it together, and she says, “That’s a really good movie.” Yeah, I agree.

Just an update that all of the pursuit of happyness in the world cannot alleviative my Gilmore Girls withdrawals.
