13 Apr 2007 The Scarf Girls
 |  Category: Gilmore Girls  | One Comment

Dear Scarf Girls, I always see you at the mall wearing your scarf & sweater.  It’s the only part of the "Gilmore Girls" I have never been ok with.  It’s like those puffy down vests that were popular a few years back.  Why are you only keeping some of your extremities warm?  Do you really get cold everywhere except your arms? So today I was walking by the table & my scarf was sitting there. I was too lazy to put it away so I absentmindedly put it on while I was finishing up the housework.  I was surprisingly warm, almost sweltering.  Who knew that all these years my neck had been so cold?  I still feel a little like I’m being strangled, but I’m pretty sure I could survive in subzero temperatures.  I just felt I had to apologize for all the rude comments I have thought when I see the scarf/sweater combo.  I never said them, they were all on the inside, but they still count. Please forgive me, I now see the light. -Sarakastic

09 Apr 2007 Rory’s book club: On the Road
 |  Category: Book Reviews  | 3 Comments

Here is some information about "On the Road" by Jack Kerouac, as well as the reason that this book got 4 toaster pastries.  Thanks to Wikipedia & the foreword of the book for all the neato information on this bible of the beat generation.

  • Was written in 3 weeks.
  • Kerouac felt that the process of inserting paper into the typewriter was too interruptive to the creative process.  He taped together a long roll of paper, the beginning of which was just 30 feet.  The roll sold for 2.4 million dollars & now tours the country.
  • It was typed without margins, singlespaced, and no paragraph breaks.  One long paragraph, I knew I wasn’t the only one.
  • Was read by Sarakastic while she was sitting in the laundromat.  Suddenly her adventure of actually being in the laundromat because her down comforter wouldn’t fit in the washer at home & she had spent the evening punching it with her fists & trying to turn the washer manually  in what should’ve been an "I Love Lucy" episode, seemed small. Sarakastic wonder’s if Jack Kerouac talked about himself in the third person.
  • Even the many book covers of reprints show a journey.
  • "I read On The Road in maybe 1959.  It changed my life like it changed everyone else’s" –Bob Dylan.  Yup, I said Bob Dylan
  • Inspired my thought of "Never love a drifter.  Well, I really wouldn’t mind a boy that was gone all the time.  Actually, that’s my ideal relationship. Note to self:  find a non-sucky non season 6 drifter Luke."

I would love to hear anyone else’s thoughts on this book, please leave comments.

08 Apr 2007 How I’m holding up
 |  Category: Gilmore Girls  | Leave a Comment

With what might be the demise of "Gilmore Girls", I have a lot of people asking how I am doing, almost like I am going through a major life change or have lost a pet.  How am I feeling?  Will I adopt another TV show?  I sincerely doubt anything can capture my attention the way the "Gilmore Girls" has.

A lot of people want to know what will happen to this site.  As Celine says, well if Celine blogged "The site will go on".  I still have plenty of books to read, & obscure references to catch up on, I haven’t even ventured into the work that it requires to become part Lane Kim.  The Gilmores are still my role models, I still have not attained that status yet.  As such, the site will keep documenting my journey to become the smart, beautiful, independent but still capable of love, business owner, that I strive to be.

However, I find that I’ve been in a bit of a "Gilmore Girls" haze, I haven’t really paid attention to other shows, or actors.  So I’ve been looking through entertainment blogs & found this cool way to get more exposure for my site as well as learning about other great entertainment blogs out there.  It’s free really easy to join all you have to do is copy & paste, & a little writing:

***Begin to copy here***

1. Write a short paragraph at the beginning of your post and link back to the blog that put you on the list in the paragraph. This isn’t a suggestion. You need to break up the duplicate content string. Someone took the time to add you so the least you can do is give them an extra linkback.
2. Copy the list of originals below COMPLETELY and add it to your blog. If you would like a different keyword for your blog then change it when you do your post and it should pass to most blogs with that keyword.
3. Take the adds from the blog that added you and place them in the “Originals” list.
4. Add no more than 5 Entertainments blogs to the list in the “My Adds” section.

06 Apr 2007 Magnolia

I believe Lorelei sat in the movie theatre watching "Magnolia" & screaming I want my life back for three hours.  Granted it is not the typical Tom Cruise movie.  Most of the time he doesn’t even look pretty, & the self respecting woman in me hated his character. At no point in the movie did he say anything along the lines of "You had me at hello".  It’s classified as a Drama, & rated R for a good reason. I would classify this movie in it’s own special genre "What the crap just happened?".  However, I liked it.  You have to be a genius to be that random.  "Magnolia" is ranked #179 on the IMD.COM’s Top 250 films of all time.  I wouldn’t go that far in my adoration of the film.  I probably wouldn’t even watch it again because the wow factor would be gone for me.  However, I’m not screaming I want my life back.
