Rory’s Book Club: The God of Small Things

Filed under: Book Reviews • Comments: 1

The God of Small ThingsThere was an episode of "Seinfeld" about a wedding in India where the scenes are acted in reverse. It takes a lot of concentration for a "Seinfeld" episode. The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy reminded me of this. (If Jane Austen reminds me of Seinfeld, then so can this book). Hmm positive things…the cover was pretty. I didn’t understand a lot of what was going on. The things I did understand, were pretty disturbing & made me want to wash out my brain. By the end, when I was finally putting all the pieces together instead of an "aha" moment, I was like good one more piece & then it will be over. I will watch that episode of "Seinfeld" episode again though.

Haunty

Filed under: Gilmore Girls • Comments: 1

This would’ve been a more appropriate post at Halloween, but I just thought of it now & I don’t have the power to time travel, that I know of. If I did have the power to time travel, rest assured that the first place I would go to is last Halloween & post this. One of my favorite "Gilmore Girls" moments is when Lorelai says she hates having the flu because it is so average & why does she never get to say that her leg is haunted. After this episode everything in my vocabulary became haunted, including a desk. Psychic Sylvia Brown is always always on the Montel show helping people exorcise spirits. One of my favorites was a lady who had moved 4 times to get rid of the ghost & the haunting was coming from a cedar chest that she had bought at a garage sale. The lady had been told this before, but she just really liked the chest. Now when I buy anything used, even books, I wonder if they will be haunty. I wonder if haunty will ever be a proper word. . I wonder if it’s wrong that I actually want to be haunted just so I can use the my leg is haunted line?
