Fred Astair looks really good there

An American in Paris"An American in Paris" is another one of the DVD’s that Lorelai buys for Emily in "Dear Richard & Emily".  I had the common misconceptions while watching this film:

1.  Wow Fred Astair looks so good there.  He almost doesn’t look like himself.  That’s because he is actually Gene Kelly.

2.  Where are the werewolves?  I had confused this movie with a classic horror flick.  I kept waiting for a creature from the netherworlds to jump up & eat someone during one of the dance numbers.

3.  I’m sarcastic, I’m tough, I’m cynical, I don’t need musicals.  It was nice to escape into a simpler, happier world.  I’m surprised how much I do not need plot lines.

All in all, it was an enjoyable movie.  Even my cold, black heart enjoyed it.  It could still use a werewolf or two.

  1. I love love love this musical for the dancing. Obviously all musicals have dancing, but Leslie Caron and Gene Kelly are divine and I’m hooked by ballet shoes and awesome costumes. A werewolf would have been awesome though…especially when Jerry is walking alone and it’s all foggy!

  2. i fall over laughing sometimes from reading your quirky blog . . . i finally saw this movie for the same reason as you, it’s on a GG episode, and i gotta say it definitely needed some werewolves. it was enjoyable and Gene Kelly is amazing but every movie of his has one random super-long music scene (the piano player’s fantasy,) it must have been the time period, but whatcha gonna do, the girl was darling, and the song with the French kids was a riot!
