Rory’s Book Club: Metamorphosis

Filed under: Book Reviews • Comments: None

The Metamorphosis (Bantam Classics) I’m not scared of a lot in this world, except for cats. (It’s not my fault that they are evil & I’m the only person who sees this). I was scared to read Kafka’s "Metamorphosis". (Nice segway, I got a good dig in at cats, I should be a talk show host with those smooth transitions. Seamless, really). The "Gilmore Girls" always mention Kafka, so I took it to be something for "smart people". The complexities of "Metamorphosis" are still being argued today. What if it’s just a book about a man who turns into a fly? If I was a writer, I would make psuedo deep novels completely at random & then laugh when people tried to attach meaning to them. I actually liked "Metamorphosis". I didn’t understand it, but it was only 55 pages long. I can handle something I don’t understand for that long, no need for 800+ pages. I will definitely be reading Kafka again, mostly because I just like to say "I was just reading Kafka &…"

Note:  I also read this one for free online at the Gutenberg Project.

The Sims as played by Sarakastic

Filed under: Gilmore Girls • Comments: 4

I got "The Sims" for Christmas. It sounded better than frostbite, which is all there is to do in Utah in winter. I made a Lorelai, Rory & Luke & put them in the same house. They looked like the "Gilmore Girls" & they acted like the Gilmores. At first everything was going ok.

Except the fact that Lorelai & Luke should not live in the same house…ever. They were constantly fighting. I gave them lots of cool toys, computers, TV to distract them, but they still always ended up in a cloud of anger.

Rory was the only responsible one so she spent all her time trying to take care of the ant problem. She became so consumed with this that she kept missing class & was sent to military school.

Finally Lorelai had enough & left.

Luke wandered around the house complaining about the furniture placement & his lack of love. The only person that ever came to visit was a burglar who stole the oriental rug in the living room. Luke got crankier & crankier until he died in a BBQ fire when he was once again making hamburgers for breakfast.

That is how I play the SIMS.

Farwell My Pet Recap

Filed under: Recaps • Comments: 7

From the Season that brought us "Let’s make the town smell like eggs episode again but not as funny" or "Let’s do another Richard in the hospital episode but not at all heartfelt" comes the long awaited "Let’s make another animal funeral episode except everyone will be really haughty & uncharacteristic & will completely ruin the "Cinnamon’s Wake" episode forever".  It just seems like they are taking things that were once inventive & beating them beyond all recognition. Well it doesn’t seem that way, it IS that way.

Does anyone else think that Logan has been abducted & a pod person put in his place?  Just a theory I wanted to throw out there.  Rory’s new professor confuses me.  We have Logan, of course something bad is going to happen there.  Why bring in someone new when we already have Martie who was never right for her in the first place, but perfect for me? First impression, I liked the new guy, although that could just be because he reminded me a lot of Max. I don’t remember his name, but I like him.  I hope we see more of him.

Sookie was flawless in her statement of something to the effect "If there was no Luke, would there be a Christopher right now?".  I’m storing that way to advise friends with, but first I have to set them up with people named Luke & Christopher. I wasn’t hearting this episode until the end, it’s nice to finally get rid of Christopher & admit that she rushed into it, & I think they did a superb job of that.  I love Lauren Graham, I do, but she is one of the worst criers I’ve ever seen. Even worse than April, but I still love her.

I’m going to make this prediction right now. Plus, I’m going to announce it in a completely unnecessary sentence. As soon as Lorelai & Luke get back together & they are so close to finally just making things happen, we will see that commercial that has been remade a thousand times for next weeks episode with various clips about how Christopher is Rory’s father & the only man that can come between them.  I think Christopher is gone, but not for long.  Unfortunately. What were your thoughts on this episode?

Rory’s Book Club: Siddhartha

Filed under: Book Reviews • Comments: 1

Siddhartha: (Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition) (Penguin Classics Deluxe Editio)"Siddhartha" by Herman Hesse is a book that will go with me no matter where I go, or what I do. Which is a little tricky because I don’t actually own the book, I had to read it at the Gutenberg project. However, I will buy the book & I will carry it with me everywhere.  I will read it once a year.  If I ever stop liking this book, I will kick myself because that will mean that I will have lost touch with who I want to be. It’s the book for anyone searching for truth. It has nothing to do with religion or culture & everything to do with finding peace.  It’s a book about, a lot of things, but mostly life. Herman Hesse will have to fight Dorothy Parker to see who remains in my top 5 books of all time, now there’s a fight I would like to see.  (Ok, so I obviously didn’t grasp the peace part of "Siddhartha", it’s not my fault that hypothetical fighting between dead authors for my everlasting love & devotion is cool)
