27 Feb 2007 “Will you be my Lorelai Gilmore?” Recap
 |  Category: Recaps  | 2 Comments

Loved it Loved it Loved it. Rory was breaking a land speed record for fast talking, lots of good mother & daughter moments between Lorelai & Rory & Lane & Mrs. Kim.  We got to see Kirk being Kirk.  Only a brief cameo by April.  Logan is sucking again, surprise surprise, hopefully this will pave the way for hot assistant professor man. Christopher seems to be a distant memory.  The episode ended with the town singing to Lane’s babies (they are both boys).  I thought that it would be the classic Lorelai standing all alone sad shot, but this was a much better way to end it. I do think that the whole New York Times thing might be heralding an end for the Gilmore Girls.  I’m actually sad about that now.  Let this be a life lesson, you cut the stupid boys out of the picture, & everything is better. Sorry this is short, but it was actually a good episode so not much to critique. How did you feel about this episode?

26 Feb 2007 Rory’s Book Club: The Time Traveler’s Wife

The Time Traveler\'s WifeI just can’t handle time traveling plot lines. I always think, "Why are you hanging out with some girl when you could be with anyone in time? Why aren’t you taking penicillin back in time or stopping the man who invented pantyhose? Are you really just that selfish that this is the best you can do with your time travel?"  At the end of "Lake House" I didn’t understand what was going on.  I didn’t even try to understand, because I just didn’t care. Every time travel story is the same: man & woman are stuck at different times but are desperately in love & one or both of them must die. I was expecting to feel the same way about "The Time Traveler’s Wife" by Audrey Niffenegger. However, I was riveted. the plot was different, it was easy to read, it was sweet. It portrayed time travel in a more realistic light, if there is such a thing.  It brought up problems with traveling through time that I’ve never thought of. It had graphic language & other stuff so I probably wouldn’t recommend it to my mom, but the story was solid. So now to the list of what I want in a man (non-sucky non season 6-7 Luke), I am adding time traveler.  Is that really asking so much?

23 Feb 2007 Tap into your inner Sookie

There’s a really good scene in Romie & Michele’s High School Reunion about who is the Rhoda & who is the Mary.  It’s the same way on the "Gilmore Girls".  No one wants to be the Sookie.  Everyone thinks they are the Lorelai.  The world has to have some Sookies.  Sookie is one of the best friends you could ever have, & if you can be that kind of person, you will have lived a good life.  Besides, we all have to share the Sookie time before we get the Lorelai "It’s all about me" time. I think we all have a little Sookie inside us & here’s some ways to tap into your "Inner Sookie".

1.  Commitment to a bit.  Every once in awhile it’s fun to just keep laughing at something long after it has ended.  Sookie doesn’t care that people are looking at her weird.  She is enjoying the joke & that’s all that matters.

2.  Listen.  Sounds simple but how many people in Stars Hallow or anywhere actually do this?  Sookie & Lorelai are such good friends because even though Sookie can ascertain what’s wrong in about 15 seconds, she still listens to Lorelai talk it out, even if it’s the same problem over & over.

3.  Master the "What?".  That signature what with the little push on the shoulder.  People like to be asked questions.  I prefer to just talk about whatever I feel like, but I’m special. Plus the shoulder push usually comes off more as me hitting someone & that rarely goes over well.

4.  You have to be a little psychic.  For all of Sookie’s quirkiness, she always knows what is wrong.

5.  So if you are a little "out of it", a little "quirky", you have prime mocking opportunity.  If you are honest & sweet, people will believe whatever you say, so you can get away with pretty much everything & then pull a Sookie "no, not really…but".

It also doesn’t hurt if you are an amazing chef & wear your hair in pig tails.

20 Feb 2007 “I’m a kayak hear me roar” Recap

Ok, this is how break ups should go.  You blubber to the salesperson at the gas station, you drink & learn Quick Books with your mom, you try to help your dad adjust to life after a heart attack.  You do not go & sleep with the father of your child after just breaking an engagement.  They finally got a break up right.  Christopher is gone, April is in New Mexico, hopefully never to be heard from again.  Logan’s father is a jerk, & Logan presumably lost all of his money.  Plus Miss Patty, Babette, & Kirk were hilarious.   I hope Lorelai takes some time to just relax & be herself before jumping back into a relationship with Luke.

My mom really hated the opening scene about running out of gas, she thought it was horrible acting on both sides. So, then we tried to recreate it, both without any acting experience, & we did a better job. I’m thinking of being in motion pictures.  I have to admit I was a little distracted because I bought the phone that Lorelai uses today, so I spent most of the episode trying to match her exact ringtone.  Lorelai doesn’t seem as upset as she should be, but it’s just Christopher after all.  What were your thoughts about the episode?
