Santa’s Secret Stuff Recap

Filed under: Recaps • Comments: 4

This was by far my favorite episode of the season, which still wasn’t saying much.  I loved it so much because every December I wonder what the Gilmores are doing for Christmas.  Luckily, Lorelai held Christmas for Rory so we finally got to see all their traditions. Here are my top 5 favorite things about this episode, & there were actually 5 good things:

1.  Christmas the Gilmore way.  Whether it’s putting red & green m&m’s in breakfast cereal or pretending to bake the cookies they bought at Westons, Christmas was uniquely Gilmore.  They bought 7 trees this year because they were on sale.

2.  Luke came into the Dragonfly to ask Lorelai for a character reference for his custody battle.  Michele took one look at him & said something like "Oh, I thought we were done with you"

3.  Lane, Mrs.  Kim, Brian, Zac & Gil were all back.  When Lane was asked about the babies she said she was just fat & it was socially acceptable to carry all the weight on her belly, thus making the innocent townspeople feel bad.  Mental note to self if I ever get pregnant.

4.  Several mentions of the outing of Pluto as a planet.  I really loved when they were in the store & said they were there to buy all the Pluto stuff because it would be collector’s items someday.

5.  Rory &  Lorelai spent a lot of time just talking this episode, in person, instead of over the phone.

It looks like next week Chris asks Lorelai if she is still in love with Luke, so it will be back to the craptacular that is season 7, but this episode was good.

Rory’s Book Club: Of Mice & Men

Filed under: Book Reviews • Comments: 1

Of Mice and Men (Penguin Great Books of the 20th Century) 3 Pop TartsDo you find yourself smiling for no apparent reason? Have you noticed that you’ve been nice to people lately? Been awhile since you started throwing TV dinners in the frozen food section of the grocery store? Finally, there is a cure for that pesky happiness. It is called "Of Mice & Men" by John Steinbeck. (Alternate title: Most depressing thing I’ve ever read). Yet another classic that I don’t agree with being a classic. This book is like "Old Yeller" without the dog. However, it will take care of any of that pesky happiness you may have lying around. Quick, must think of something happy. Rory! Rory’s Book Club! (See link in the umm top bar, I mean header. I totally just didn’t forget the word for header. I really should use the delete key more.)

Another something happy to distract you from the fact that I just gave a great piece of literature only 3 pop tarts, New Gilmore Girls episode tomorrow.  I even capitalized New, that’s how excited I am.

The whiniest post ever

7th Heaven went off the air in May 2006, we had our series finale, we said our goodbyes.  I suddenly noticed BAHM the show is starting again.  While it is a very odd move by the CW it gives me hope.  Maybe they will really fight to keep “Gilmore Girls” for at least another season.  I don’t really know if I’m ready for it to be over.  However, I also am not prepared for the show to keep sucking. When I finally watched the one episode I had missed this season, I didn’t care that nothing made sense.  I was just happy to see my “friends” again, they are so pretty.  Whatever happens, I still have 42 discs of “Gilmore Girls” to watch repeatedly.  I have enough books, music, & obscure TV references to last me for the rest of my life.  I just need to know.  I need time to prepare, not just be watching one week & the preview be for the series finale.  Whatever happens, I hope the show gets back to its roots.  I hope that Anna/April/Christopher/Lucy or anyone else along those lines, takse an exit soon & we can get back to the townspeople & Lorelei & Rory. I’m trying to be very zen about this, but please does it have to be the last season? What do you think will/should happen to the show?

Rory’s Book Club: The Secret Life of Bees

Filed under: Book Reviews • Comments: 2

The Secret Life of Bees2.5 Pop Tarts“The Secret Life of Bees” by Susan Monk Kidd reminds me of “To Kill a Mocking Bird”. “To Kill a Mocking Bird” reminds me of Gregory Peck. I like Gregory Peck. Therefore, I like this book. “The Secret Life of Bees” is the journey of a 14 year old girl in the South in 1964. Lily Owens is on a quest to find out about her mother’s life & death. However, this book wasn’t as good as “To Kill a Mocking Bird”, so it’s like comparing an apple & a slightly spoiled apple. On the Sarakastic meter this would score a solid 5.2 out of 10. It would be entirely forgettable without my Gregory Peck association. To join Rory’s Book Club check out the link at the top of the page.
