Santa’s Secret Stuff Recap

This was by far my favorite episode of the season, which still wasn’t saying much.  I loved it so much because every December I wonder what the Gilmores are doing for Christmas.  Luckily, Lorelai held Christmas for Rory so we finally got to see all their traditions. Here are my top 5 favorite things about this episode, & there were actually 5 good things:

1.  Christmas the Gilmore way.  Whether it’s putting red & green m&m’s in breakfast cereal or pretending to bake the cookies they bought at Westons, Christmas was uniquely Gilmore.  They bought 7 trees this year because they were on sale.

2.  Luke came into the Dragonfly to ask Lorelai for a character reference for his custody battle.  Michele took one look at him & said something like "Oh, I thought we were done with you"

3.  Lane, Mrs.  Kim, Brian, Zac & Gil were all back.  When Lane was asked about the babies she said she was just fat & it was socially acceptable to carry all the weight on her belly, thus making the innocent townspeople feel bad.  Mental note to self if I ever get pregnant.

4.  Several mentions of the outing of Pluto as a planet.  I really loved when they were in the store & said they were there to buy all the Pluto stuff because it would be collector’s items someday.

5.  Rory &  Lorelai spent a lot of time just talking this episode, in person, instead of over the phone.

It looks like next week Chris asks Lorelai if she is still in love with Luke, so it will be back to the craptacular that is season 7, but this episode was good.

  1. Ugh. I am SICK that I missed it! First episode back and I. MISSED. IT. Thanks for the highlights though! Oh! Remember how we were contemplating the future (if any) of the show? Apparently, Alexis Bledel is the hold-out on re-signing for another season (according to spoiler sites I check and usually always on the money)–however, “they” are trying to come up with a Plan B of sorts in which L&L are married and raising their new baby!

  2. I am in total agreement that last night’s episode was pretty damn good. I think they finally got back up to speed in terms of dialog, but I don’t remember any references so obscure that I felt the need to rush over to Wikipedia… It was nice to see Michel, however brief! My boyfriend totally laughed when Lorelai made the joke about how Williams Sonoma could tie a string to a rock and call it a poultry pulverizer and she’d shell out 35 bucks! Chris and his giant velour stockings were…ick. Nice review, I heartily approve.

  3. Last night’s episode was definitely the best so far this season. There were a couple moments there when Lauren Graham really shined, a couple moments I had to remind myself she’s not really Lorelai Gilmore. It’s definitely building up the tension between Luke & Lorelai and gearing up for the battle between Luke & Anna.

As Girl Friday noted, there were very few Gilmore-ism’s though, and none very obscure. (I was keeping track!) I think the best was probably Zach’s string of “meets.” But Lorelai’s “Lie of omission” was pretty good, too: “A Lie of Omission, wasn’t that an Ashley Judd-Morgan Freeman movie?” (The only Ashley Judd-Morgan Freeman movie I know of is Kiss the Girls.)

  4. I used to think Chris was pretty cute, but man, he’s gotten teadious LOL. Much better romantic tension with Luke and Lorelai, but he looked a little pathetic with his hat scrunched down extra low while begging for a character ref. Just give the guy back his manly-attitude, all I’m sayin’.
