19 Nov 2006 Rory’s Book Club: The Nanny Diaries
 |  Category: Book Reviews  | 5 Comments

The Nanny Diaries: A NovelMy next step to become Rory was to read “The Nanny Diaries” by Emma McLaughlin & Nicola Kraus. This book reminded me why I read. It totally captivated me. I have never read anything before that was so much like watching a movie.  It was so effortless, funny, & had the best imagery. Think “The Devil Wears Prada” with a four year old. Only think that though if you liked “The Devil Wears Prada”, which I did. Completely made me reassess how people in the service industry are treated. It’s a must read for anyone with children or who has ever babysat or been a nanny or had a job or was breathing. To join Rory’s book club check out the official link in the sidebar & choose a book. You can browse my archives to see the books I thought were crap. So literary of me, the word crap. Classy. I think Shakespeare coined that word. Maybe not, but he should have. Anyways, “The Nanny Diaries”, read it, thank me later.

16 Nov 2006 Is the Gilmore Girls soundtrack worth buying?
 |  Category: Gilmore Music  | 7 Comments

Our Little Corner of the World: Music From Gilmore Girls One can’t be a proper Gilmore Girl wannabe without owning the Gilmore Girls Soundtrack. (Fine, I’ve finally admitted it, I’m a wannabe. Happy?). You definitely get your moneys worth with 24 songs, including the theme song by Carol King. By my count this CD has 16 good-great songs, 3 fair to middling songs, & 5 plain bad songs. That is a pretty good ratio. It sounds like something the Gilmores would listen to. My favorites is the “la-la” music by Sam Phillips Cue. You know the one, the songs that go la la la, where we can tell something magical is going to happen. I’m now on a quest to own all the “la-la” music from all seasons. If anyone knows where I can get more, I’d appreciate a comment. At my house things go something like this, “Sara I’m going to go get the mail”, “Just a sec, let me turn on the la-la music to increase the chances of something magical happening on your way to mailbox”.

15 Nov 2006 French Twist Recap

Pro
Cute Polka Dot luggage
Paris finally snipes at the other people who voted her out as editor. I always wondered why she was so ok with working with these “traitors”
The term “club Nixon”. I want to be outsed as something just so I can use the phrase. Maybe it would just be better to be in the general vicinity of an out-sing
In true “Gilmore Girls” fashion they didn’t show Christopher & Lorelai’s elopement. Seems like a moment a true “Gilmore Girls” fanatic wouldn’t miss for the world, but I was just happy to not have to look at the “Perfect Dress” again.
Martie came back.
Mrs. Kim was up to her usual antics. When Kim & Zac refused to move back into her house, she moved in their house & moved Brian in with a Korean family.
If I ever have twins I will name them Marco & Polo.

Con
Rory wasn’t at Christopher & Lorelai’s elopement.
First off, Rory’s new friends remind me a lot of the Aeria girls. To the point that I am afraid to go outside, or talk to any female between the ages of 18-23.
Lorelai & Chris got married.
Martie was odd & dating a scary Aeria type girl. Martie would never do that.

Ah, also add to the con list the fact that it was set in Paris so had that weird vibe a show gets when it’s not on location.  Well actually I should add that to the con list, it’s my job. Technically there are more things on the Pro list, but the Con list has such heavy magnitude. What did you think of this episode of “Gilmore Girls”

12 Nov 2006 Rory’s Book Club: Brave New World

Brave New World I would recommend “Brave New World” by Aldous Huxoly if you like to google a book after you finish it to figure out what you just read. I couldn’t even figure out the summaries I read online. I have no idea what happened at the end. I’ve never taken a writing class, but I’m pretty sure the ending is an important part to understand. I want to give this book a high rating just so other people will go read it. Then they can explain it to me. I started to read “Brave New World: Revisited”  hoping it would shed some light on it. In this book Huxoly wrote that he thought his book was much more relevant than “1984″ by George Orwell. This might have been true 50 years ago, but I feel that “1984″ has come true much more than this book. Mostly because I don’t know what this book was about. If you want to join Rory’s book club visit the official site in the sidebar & pick any book you like. If you want to explain to me what the crap happened in “Brave New World”, please leave a comment.
