My next step to become Rory was to read “The Nanny Diaries” by Emma McLaughlin & Nicola Kraus. This book reminded me why I read. It totally captivated me. I have never read anything before that was so much like watching a movie. It was so effortless, funny, & had the best imagery. Think “The Devil Wears Prada” with a four year old. Only think that though if you liked “The Devil Wears Prada”, which I did. Completely made me reassess how people in the service industry are treated. It’s a must read for anyone with children or who has ever babysat or been a nanny or had a job or was breathing. To join Rory’s book club check out the official link in the sidebar & choose a book. I liked this book too - a nice departure from Rory’s serious side! It hit a bit too close to home for me, though, as when I read it, a close friend had become one of those Upper East Side moms with an overworked/underpaid nanny and the whole thing just seemed really gross. I’m not against hiring someone to help care for your kids, but they should probably be paid better than the girl who shampoos your hair before you get it cut.

I almost bought that book recently. That’s it…I’m going back to get it. Heard that it was written by two real nannies, and that their former employers cried, “foul.” How funny is that?

I read this book over the summer–a very nice sit-by-the-pool read. Loved it…I can’t remember if these authors have written anything else.
