17 Oct 2006 S’ Wonderful S’ Marvelous: The Lobotomy Hat
 |  Category: Recaps  | 7 Comments

I blame the new hat. I figure that the reason Luke is hiding the entire top of his head is because it is scarred, or has just disappeared altogether. He has had a lobotomy, hence his behavior lately, hence my new nickname “the lobotomy hat”. Seriously, non-lobotomy Luke would’ve said to Anna Nardini “Why are you wearing a wig? What is on your head?”. Then he would’ve made a no fake hairpiece sign & put it next to his no cell phone sign. Then he would’ve made Anna wear the lobotomy hat. I don’t know what was up with Emily’s arrest & Rory’s new friends. “Gilmore Girls” doesn’t have filler, well at least it didn’t use to.  Other non-lobotomy related observations from this episode:

1. Since when does Rory slap her head when Lorelai is being impossible?  She is supposed to keep the gag going.

2. I liked that we got to see Rory during the summer.  This means more interaction between her & Lorelai, less annoying college friends, & more of Stars Hallow.

3. Has the lighting changed?  Everything seems a lot dimmer, & the Gilmores don’t have quite the glowing skin they always have had.

4.  This episode was very romantic.  I love the surprise, the movie, & the gentleman like behavior.  Only one problem: it’s with the WRONG FREAKING GUY.

What did everyone think of “S’ Wonderful, S’ Marvelous”?

15 Oct 2006 Rory’s Book Club: Pygmalion
 |  Category: Book Reviews  | One Comment

Pygmalion (Dover Thrift Editions) If you’ve already seen “My Fair Lady” you must read “Pygmalion” by George Bernard Shaw. Even if you didn’t like “My Fair Lady” (what’s wrong with you?), you should still read the play by  it was based on. “Pygmalion” is drastically different. Here’s just a few ways that the play differs (George Bernard Shaw says he was pressured to change the ending on the set of the movie “Pygmalion” by twenty different people.)

1. Eliza’s dad is left a great deal of money by a rich philanthropist who likes his novel ideas. Mr. Doolittle still can’t manage to take care of Eliza because all of the money is consumed by keeping up appearances.

2. In the final scene where Higgins asks Eliza to come live with him, Eliza says no. She basically says that Higgins has treated her like dirt & she is going to marry Freddie because he is nice to her. (Way to go Eliza!!! I have always wondered why she ended up with him in “My Fair Lady”)

3. Higgins tries to bully her into it because she has nothing else to do to support herself. Eliza says she has learned more about diction & speaking from him, plus she isn’t mean to people, so she can be a teacher like he is. Basically she threatens to become his competition.

4. Freddie & Eliza marry. Freddie’s family has only been keeping up appearances, they are broke. So they move in with Higgins & Pickering. Eliza loves Pickering dearly & is quite tough on Higgins, always nagging him.

5. Eliza & Freddie need a way to support themselves so Pickering helps them set up a flower shop. They aren’t very good at it.

To join Rory’s book club check the link in the sidebar, & get to reading. I don’t know what will happen to Rory’s book club since the WB has merged into the CW. Hopefully, they keep it up. Either way, I am still going to read all the books. If you have any comments about this book/movie/play please…well comment. That was redundant, I’ll do better, sorry.

13 Oct 2006 Stars Hallow Carnival
 |  Category: Gilmore Girls  | One Comment

It’s fall which means that it is Stars Hallow Carnival time. In my town we have several crazy festivals, like one centered around rhubarb. The crazy factor is  this town does not now nor has it ever grown rhubarb, & I don’t think people particularly like rhubarb here, we don’t even border anyone who grows/has grown/ or likes rhubarb. So for a great “Stars Hallow” festival you will need:

 1. A Cause. Whether it’s restoring the town bridge, or buying a tarp for the newly restored town bridge, or the anniversary of a battle that almost happened, you have to have a reason. If you can’t find one, use rhubarb.

2. Food. Fried food that shouldn’t be fried, preferably on a stick. Easy preparation think of any food, say green beans.  Then, do people usually fry this food?  If the answer is no…go for it.

3. Gotta have a psychic, it can even be a dog named after a long forgotten singer. Just make sure to clarify that it is Paul Anka the dog, not the singer.

4. Founders Day Punch.  Enough Said.

5. Sure, you probably make fun of the over zealous lady in the turtleneck passing out pamphlets about how whatever activity you are partaking in is evil. Whether it is dancing, carnivals rides, or rhubarb, she has 15 reason why it is sending you to Hades. It isn’t a town function without a Mrs. Kim.  So give her a hug the next time you see her & gladly accept her eggless egg salad sandwich.

10 Oct 2006 “Lorelai’s First Cottillion” Recap
 |  Category: Recaps  | 6 Comments

I keep telling myself to just start writing & then I will be able to figure out whether I liked this episode of the “Gilmore Girls”. So this is me writing trying to figure it out. I like that both Paul Anka & April have taken backseats in season 7. I hate Paris’ new hair color. Yes, she looks prettier, but I didn’t even know it was Paris until she started talking. I also didn’t heart Luke’s new baseball hat. If I remember correctly, Lorelai gave him the old cap, but that might just be me starting a rumor. If Lorelai didn’t give him the old hat, she should have, that would’ve been a much better storyline. I also intensely dislike the Aeria girls, or whatever they are called, during the commercials. They have completely disproportionate laughter to the drivel they say. They inspired me to figure out how to spell disproportionate. All in all, this episode was better than the previous Season 7 episodes. It wasn’t “Gilmore Girls” at its finest, but it was Season 5-ish.What did you think of this weeks episode? Does anyone else remember the hat story or did I make that up? If I did make it up would you be willing to pass it along to your friends?
