In Junior High I never sat at the cool table, and with this review I won’t be sitting at the the literary cool table. Oprah hearted this book enough to make a movie out of it. She described it as giving birth, and then everyone says something like “Your baby is ugly”. Well Oprah, hate to break it to you, but it is true. I really didn’t like “Beloved” by Toni Morrison. You know when you don’ t like something and you can’t really explain why? That’s how I feel about this book, so obviously the natural thing is for me to write a review about it :p I understand that books need to delve into darker issues, I appreciate this. It wasn’t the subject matter that I didn’t like, it was the portrayal of a dead child as a bitter selfish being that I felt was unrealistic, cruel, and just hard to get behind. In all fairness, I will try reading Toni Morrison again. How did you feel about “Beloved”? Share your thoughts here. Feel free to share your comments with us, as I further my unofficial quest to become a Gilmore Girl. Read like a Gilmore, Become a Gilmore, pass it on.

There is some debate whether this will be the last season of Gilmore Girls. It doesn’t really matter to me because I obsessively watch past season’s DVD’s so I will always have the Gilmore Girls. However, I think they need to pull a “Mary Tyler Moore Show” spin-off extravaganza. From Mary Tyler Moore, we got the Rhoda Show and the Betty White show among others. If you had to choose a Gilmore Girls character for a spin off show which one would it be?
Mrs. Kim: New V.J. on MTV
Kirk: A remodeling show where he single handily has to build a house in a week by himself.
Paris: West Wing-esque show with Paris as President.
Leave a Comment and let me know what your spin off idea is. I’d copyright these but I’m hoping someone will steal them and make them into a show.

The first time I saw the TV show “Gilmore Girls” I wished they were real people so I could go over to their house and jump on the couch while eating pop tarts and listening to Tom Waits. I felt the same way when I read “Ethan Frome” by Edith Wharton. I wanted to be the author’s friend, and I think she would fit in well with Lorelai and the girls. My mom has read “House of Mirth” also by Edith Wharton, and the excerpt that I read was a completely different style of writing. I would say “Ethan Frome” was very plain and simple, all about life wrapped into 93 pages. The writing style was like Louisa May Alcott with an edge. This book so far is only second to “The curious incident of the dog in the night-time” by Mark Haddon as my favorite books on Rory’s book list.
